The fireplace is going to be your main focal point- which is really great! What things are you needing assistance with specifically, paint, flooring/rug, furniture, accessories, etc.

Thanks for the quick responses! Need help with furniture, my husband hates the sofas. He wants more frenchy leggy look but wants comfort too. Decor too. Don't know how to bring out the marble fireplace

I think the curtains overwhelm the room and I would probably downscale the size of the furniture; maybe only one couch with two chairs. I love the chandelier.

I would have a tall relatively plain gilt mirror over the fireplace. The curtains would have to go if it were my house and I would opt for something far more simple. No horizontal stripes. and the fancy pelmet would have to go. Maybe you could have the curtains dyed dark blue or dark grey and reuse them if you like. The sofas are too chunky and do not allow you to see the floor underneath and thus make the room appear smaller. The patterned sheer curtain would have to go if it were me

What colors do you like? Do you want something fairly traditional and conservative, neutral retc or are you someone who likes bold colored walls, or patterned wallpaper?

Just looking at your suggested furniture, these are very statement making pieces. I would suggest limiting yourself to one statement maker as I think otherwise they will compete with each other and the room will not be restful and may feel cluttered

Here are a few options for furniture: The accent chair is not the right fabric- but you can see the lines and style. These pieces can all be both traditional or transitional- depending on fabrics selected.

Going to keep the curtains- they were too expensive to do away with. Carpet and walls will stay also.

I like Victorian or more towards traditional, curves and leggy. I can't stand clean lines or modern or contemporary. Don't like bold. I want this to look relaxing and inviting but also formal. It's the first room people see when they walk in

I would go with a large interesting Mirror on the wall above the fireplace. If you want the Victorian look, it would certainly be formal. Just be sure to add color. You might want to have a Persian rug in the middle. I would however, change out the flooring to either Hardwood or a good laminate. Gives a lot of warmth and formality.

But, I just read that you are saying the carpet is staying. I would add the Persian rug for sure, that is not too involved in a patern. If the drapes are staying, you would want to pick up the stripes somewhere in a pattern. You might also want to add a little red into the decor. Personally, I think a couch facing the fireplace and a couple chairs on both sides looks formal and yet inviting.

I changed my mind, I want a French parlor look. Any ideas? I'm not going to change the drapes or carpet or chandelier
