Living room help...please.

Does my living room look okay? I would like a coffee table or two and maybe an accent table to go between the two white chairs. My sofas are 103" long. What else could I do to make this room fun?

Looks better than okay! Very nice. I'd like to see something round above the FP to break up all of the rectangles there. A small round table between those fab wing chairs would be nice. You could use some lamps. Could you schooch the loveseat back a little so that it doesn't "match up" to the sofa? Also, what is the height of the arms of the wing chairs? You could go either transitional or modern on your cocktail table. Which direction would you like to highlight?

Beautiful space I would hang a sunburst mirror or some other decorative mirror above fireplace replace those white accent pillows with something colorful

Both sofas are 103" estate sofas. They create kind if a funky space so that I can't get just one coffee table....I think. Not sure what to do. I love modern or eclectic looks for everything... What about a clear coffee table? I'd like to add some pop art??
    Thanks for your comment. :-)

I think it would look interesting to mix up the traditional and contemporary like you have going on. And, mixing metals maybe. For instance, a more traditional mirror above the FP but a contemporary cocktail table, and a transitional side table for the wing chairs.

Something curvy like this between the wing chairs?

I agree with breaking up the square windows with something round. The pillows in the two gorgeous white chairs are way over sized and need to be a color that picks up other colors in the room. I like the red throw, but would like to see some yellow highlights in the room. It looks like a very conformable room to be in. I also agree getting a table or a small wooden trunk to go in between the two white chairs.

I just put drywall over the niche (sp) over the fireplace last week and painted the fireplace surround tile. Looking for a dining room table to go with my new art. And kitchen, living and dining is all one open space. So hard to decorate all at once.

I had a feeling the two white pillows were too big. Friends don't tell the truth. Lol

Darzy, I like the size but maybe something a little bit more modern? I think I'm not sure what I like. First time decorating a space for me. So hard. :-P

    Thanks everyone for the feedback!

Yipeee! Eclectic is so fun to help with. I was thinking a peek a boo clear acrylic coffee table for one sofa. Then, the other side a garden stool but I thought was too eclectic for you. A different mirror is definitely in order here. :) I see you also like a little sparkle/glam.

Love the hot pink and turquoise art. I would use pillows to pick up those colors and liven up the very neutral sofas. I think the mantel is a bit crowded and would improve with some editing, but not the fun pink candles.

Darzy!! I have the peekaboo table from CB2 in my checkout basket this minute!! Glad you suggested that!

The mirror over the fireplace isn't doing much...because nothing interesting is reflected in it.
A mirror that is very decorative would make more of a statement. =)

The oversized pillows in the white chairs would make great floor pillows by the fire, but you do need some color there - try a pair of lumbar pillows. Here's one for winter and another for spring. Paint the mirror frame red or black and hang it to reflect a fun chandelier or other light.

Add a woven or leather (look) bin with firewood toward the side of the FP. I like the idea of a clear coffee table with colourful items on it. The clear candlesticks are not visible, maybe replace them with something larger?
Pillows in a geometric print to complement the rug?

Mcbriec, that is a before pic of the mantle, those are my summer pillows and art, too. I was trying to "warm up" the space with the fur pillows. I have a teal pillow and a berry colored blanket for accent colors for winter along with the fur and leopard pillows.

I think your room is lovely! My first thought to make it better, drapes. Maybe roman shades on the small windows...? Not sure there. Definitely something round about the fireplace. How about a collection of small framed pieces somewhere? Beside the mantle maybe? I recently placed a collection of 3 smaller frames low on an awkward wall. Look great! I agree on the pop-art-y idea. Something large and graphic instead of the two small pieces that you have beside the large window. A more dramatic, sculptural hanging light fixture? I think the room needs a bit of layering. Keep adding and subtracting until it feels right. Taking photos is a great way to review and re-evaluate what you have done. But it's already a really nice, inviting space!

Angelina, I was thinking of a beautiful dark charcoal chandelier from zgallerie?? Would that help the space?

I had it that way last week, Darzy. That's how I wanted it but thought the white chairs were too tall by the kitchen?

Bar stools I just bought. Yes, or no?
    last modified: 12 years ago
Yes to the stools but three may be too many? I usually like odd numbers but the rug makes it "three" and it won't look as crowded. So, I'd center the stools between the middle end of the wood slats. Unless you regularly need three stools. And, BTW, I kinda like that the flokati pillows on the sofa are too big. :) I think eclectic is a bit about breaking the rules.

    Sofas the other way.

Darzy, yes I have three teen daughters so they eat breakfast there. I could remove the rug but my floors scratch really easily. :-(

Thanks for the comment on the pillows. I already took the tags off. 0.0

I like both ways. Do you need to put the tv in the corner though?

The stools/rug look fine. If you didn't need three okay, but it works for me. Actually, the rug/stools are fab. I like your style. :)

Thanks, Darzy. I appreciate that. No TV in this room. I have a casual TV room for the kids in the garage. Noise outside is good.

I think drapes would soften the space and add a lot. Can you tell me what the overhang of your bar is? Currently trying to decide if 12" is enough overhang for a kitchen bar like yours. Thanks!!

Ashley, it's 12.5 inches. Plenty of room. :-)

The Kimani mirror is on sale at Horchow, I just bought it. That would look great over your fireplace as Darzy suggests. Both furniture arrangements like good. Love the pillows on sofas instead of the chairs as the scale is much better. Small lumbar pillow would look good on white chairs. Curtains will add a lot. I like the rug and stools. Two would give more room for them to breathe but you need three. Nice juxtaposition do textures.
