Do you use that area as a storage area?
It would be more attractive if you set it up as a seating area. I see attractive chairs under the stairs. Could you put them where the other stuff now is, add an outdoor area rug, table, maybe a bench. Some large planters with colourful plants (or just green plants if you prefer) flanking the opening in the outside wall... Lights will help to make it feel more welcoming.

Could you post a picture of this side of the house from some distance?

A welcome sign on balcony wall. There's outdoor art that you could hang on the walls.

Not really storage. Just the odd cardboard box I am too lazy to put in recycling. BBQs out to be cleaned, not usually there. Laundry tubs were used as planters but not very successful - too shady. Chairs usually on timber deck in front. There is a flouro over the left hand windows.

If I put a welcome sign all my friends would think I had moved.
Can't take photo now because night time. Will try tomorrow.

If you browse through the photo section, type something like 'covered porch' or 'covered patio' in the search box... you'll maybe get some inspiration for this area.
