We have installed a new fireplace insert in a corner wall. The insert measures 30" high x 41"long (includes surround). It protrudes approx 4" from the surround. It sits on a 10" pedestal base plus a 7" step. The step length is 45".
The fireplace wall meets a cathedral ceiling, 7' on lowest side and 8 ' at highest. It has 2 small side walls, 8" wide.
The base butts up to ceramic tile floor.
1. Mantel: Should the mantel be floating style or surround? Should it be wrapped around sidewalls or just extend past the insert? There is 8" space between insert surround to side wall. What should the mantel height be and length (if it is floating).
2.Should the entire wall be covered in tile...or tile up to the mantel, then drywall after that?. We just can't visualize and don't know what will look best. The fireplace is in the great room, w/ couch along lt wall and sliding doors along rt wall, if that helps. Would like to go for a little contemporary/modern look
