linzbatch what's your style? Can you show us a pic looking the other way so suggestions may try to compliment what you have.

Excuse the mess kids and hubby home now....upcoming project to replace counters & appliances (stainless)

That should give you an idea thanks!

This time select the fan based on the light fixtures illumination qualities. The fixture should project 100% of it's light down and outward. Check to be sure that the light fixture can be dimmed to improve the ambiance. Form follows function. What is your real function here?

Below is an image of a Hunter 48-in Fanaway Retractable Blade Brushed Chrome Ceiling Fan with Light Kit and Remote available at Lowes.

I think a chandelier would look lovely over your traditional dining set. Will this be a possibility or is hubby set on the fan? Were you thinking something chrystal? antique bronze? a large candelabra lantern or urn?

I agree a chandelier would look great here, perhaps a vintage bronze one?

I agree - chandelier. Is there anything else you want to change about the room?

Ideally cabinets and counters and appliances but for budget purposes we are doing fixture now and counters soon.

I would love to find an antique chand... ESP since we have to keep the buffet from grandma!

An antique chandelier would be a wonderful addition. Do you have any antique dealers in your area?

~Lyvonne

Yes....I might check around....still have to convince hubby we don't need a fan in there!

What would you change, lyvonne? Any easy fixes? Besides the after school counter clutter?

I wouldn't change too much for now since you are planning a bigger re-do in the future. It works as is so better to save until then.

I am wondering if you have a formal dining room too? Could you put the buffet in there?

I guess the first step to convincing hubs to get rid of the fan is to see how much you actually use it. Do you use it a lot?

Perhaps consider, taking down the valances, which hung at that height can shorten the feel of the ceiling height. Drapery Panels would be lovely in the space. Hang the curtain rod directly under crown molding to maximize sense of space. Bed bath and behind has a corner connector for two drapery rods meeting in a corner. Your drape height with an 8 foot ceiling height would be 96" resulting with a slight break at the floor in the curtain.

Hmmmm good idea about drapes! Colors? This house does not have formal dining much to my dismay. :( it was a house we compromised on.....love love the neighborhood.
