I think that the curtains are the wrong color and fabric. Lace seems too soft with the brick.

I agree tha curtains are wrong. Also need a wider view to see the context of the room. However, your furniture is very heavy and therefore you need to balance it out without overwhelming the room. Curtains would help but I would like to see a small table between the chair and couch, with a table lamp on it and then some art work on the wall. This will introduce differing heights of visual interest.

If it's possible get rid of lamp in corner and put in overhead lighting, then put art work on the brick. I wouldn't want the art work to large, for i like the bricks, but i feel its just to much

Pick something with a pattern that you like and pull your accent colors from it. With pillows and a throw.

The sheers are just too delicate for the room. You have heavy furniture and brick walls. The curtains need to have more weight to them. Pick some colors from your room, like brown and reds and white, and have than in the curtains.

I would remove that torchiere, and place some kind of light aimed at the wall instead. It can be a ceiling mounted wall washer, or floor placed uplights. That would highlight the bricks. Some light could also be aimed at the curtains (heavier ones than the sheer ones, as many have mentioned). The armchair seems placed at an odd angle. A side table with a lamp in that area could help distribute light towards the brick wall and make the area seem cozier.
