Personally, I would do a lighter tile. If you wanted to do a mosaic you could also do solid tile with a stripe of mosaic in the middle?

That tannish color clashes with your reddish cabinets.

Tara has a good suggestion. I say a mini brick Solid light colour Mosaic that blends with the marble.

Also I think the current title floor clashes... Changing the tile to be closer to the counter top with the darker backsplash. Maybe the brown in the tile I posted should be more closer to you cabinet color

I'm not sure if you mentioned the type of stone but it looks like Kashmire White to me??? If so the colors in that stone are cool - white, gray w/garnet... I know you've paid for it but I would remove the granite backsplash and tile down to he deck - keeping the granite portion competes too much with whatever you decide to choose. There is a stainless subway tile that would look awesome but if that's too contemporary I'd go with a white subway tile like Dana Pope suggested - it's classic and traditional...

I agree with many. Change the floor tile to go with your counters, pull out the current backsplash and tile from the bottom of the top cabinets to the counter in a white subway. Sonoma Tile is a beautifully made subway.
