I used Ralph Lauren black paint in a satin finish. I cannot remember the actual name of black, but the Ralph Lauren paint is no longer available anyhow. I bought it from Home Depot around 7 years ago. It's held up quite well. I did not seal it with poly, just used paint like you would on the walls.
