I would consider putting the head of your bed on the 152" wall and possibly using a small couch at the end (like a footboard) to create the start of your living area.

With a TV across from the couch, it allows you to view from either the couch or the bed, if you have a TV that is the right size.

The bed might need to be doubled as the main seating as well.

thank you lucindanyc - I like the idea of the couch as a footboard and how it might add a bit of privacy to the bed itself.

Dytecture - I was trying to think about how to best use the bed as a seating area as well, like a day bed - but since we are planning to use a queen or full bed, then I think it seems to deep for a couch. We can't use any convertible furniture (such as a murphy bed or sofa bed) because this is for a senior citizen and it needs to be pretty much a standard set up.

APK - thank you for the thoughts! I really like the idea of the pop up table, I hadn't thought of that though I have seen those before! I don't think the section would work as a bed just because of the maneuvering to get it to switch between couch and bed, but definitely something to consider.

I did a layout for you. The table is about 48"x36" and sticks out passed the wall a little so it can be used if they need extra space during prep (since the kitchenette probably has little counter space). The wavy line represents a curtain hung from the ceiling, as a visual separation of spaces; I would use something translucent. This separation can also be achieved with furniture, like shelving; but be sure it is stable so it can't tip over (maybe weigh it down). I centered the bed on the 152" wall. You may have to shift things if this person has a walker or a wheelchair. Best of luck, I know it can be difficult dealing with an aging loved one.

I wanted to post a huge thank you and the outcome of all of your great advice! We utilized the layout with a few updates based on space as we got the pieces in the room. The TV does a great job of separating the bed area from the sitting area and we used a lazy susan so the TV could be seen from the couch/chair and the kitchen table. We have received a ton of compliments. I feel like I could write a book of advice after working through this move with my Mom! Thank you Houzz!!!
