Murphy Bed on budget??

Budget will not allow spending the $400 to buy murphy bed hardware, Has anyone designed their own? We have built our own log cabin and would like extra sleeping space for the grandkids and love the murphy bed idea. (Hanging hammocks from rafters turned out to be to much fun!!)

If you're a DYI'er, I'd try to find a cast off sofa bed, tear it apart and MacGyver something out of the mechanism like a window seat or credenza.

Haunt salvage places. You should be able to pick up a murphy frame for a lot less, it may need a little TLC but. I wouldn't want to try to macGuyver something like that....

Really? I don't see used Murphy's too often, but it may depend on where you live, I guess. The mechanism in a sofa bed is relatively simple; just a few anchor bolts. The downside is the cabinetry won't be as slim as a Murphy bed.

My brother lives in NYC and had a Murphy bed but not home made. He loves it, has had it for years.

Check Craig's List and local want ads for Murphy beds.

If you want to make one yourself, google 'how to make a Murphy bed' and I'm sure you'll find youtube videos and other links showing how to do it. I'm sure it's not tough if you know what you're doing.

Take a look at storagebeds.com They carry Murphy bed kits, and instructions for cutting the wood pieces which you would have to provide along with a mattress.
