Need help selecting a flooring material suitable for indoors and out

We are adding on family room that will open out to the backyard. One idea suggested was to use a flooring that could continue from inside to out ... We have two kids and a dog so worry about surface getting slippery when wet ...so want to be mindful about that...

My husband is not crazy about porcelain tiles that looks like wood and I worry that slate will be flakey and cold.... would love some ideas of what might work.

Slate is a timeless look which works well outside and in. Cheap slate can be flakey (all those thin layers), just get good quality stone.

Slate is not "flaky". On the cheap, if you are pouring a slab foundation stain the concrete.

Soapstone is great for flooring, especially if you are in a cold climate.

Slate can work real well - however in int. use ( honed and filled) which has good coefficent of slip resistance and is easier to clean and outside use ( natural cleft) Agree with your husband the wood look tiles are best left for Mc donalds.

Bluestone is beautiful. What about limestone? Or just a different direction, reclaimed barn wood. It's already been outside. This is a great question with some tough calls. Keep us posted.

Just saw something about teak too. Good outside for sure. Probable $$$, but not sure
