Here are some links to look at for ideas. I like the idea of something linear. I would stick with something very light and neutral to have the most contrast against the dark cabinets...white/cream color, etc.. The top two links are for glass tiles. these have a nice clean linear pattern...but could come off as too modern with the clean lines of the cabinets and dark coloring. I threw something a little outside the box out in there too with that last one. That one is a ceramic, but I think the light, antique color and subtle pattern would lend itself best to the "shabby chic" look. Use a darker grout to help it blend in with the dark cabinets and the dark graining in the granite.

And to really pull the "shabby" look together, you could do mini chandeliers in place of the pendants. Just some food for thought!
