I did not say the padding will "help". Carpet has padding under it. The length of the pile is fairly irrelevant when compared to the insulation value of padding.

There are other issues - what type of heating system. Hydronic or Electric.

Hydronic heating baseboard vs electric baseboard heating. No contest. Hydronic in my experience wins. Electric heat dissipates too fast

John, if you had asked the question, I would have explained it slower and used smaller words :)

I find explanations given in slow small words rather effective;)

Something to consider people when you install electric floor heat is the backing on the bath mat. This can cause the floor to super heat in that location and effect the heating wires.

An open bathmat design and not full rubber backing is preferred .

Congratulations John, well deserved indeed!!!!! I shot you a quick note with a few other questions but I'm hoping you can answer one here too. I'm having in floor radiant heat in my basement slab (Alberta.... enough said) however, the lines haven't been ran under the shower buck out and the slab is being poured tomorrow. I'm just curious as to why not and why is electric heat the alternative in that spot?
