Well, you have a lovely Kerman, open field Persian rug. First things first. I would put that rug somewhere else for now, or roll it up. It is valuable and shouldn’t be in a “hard use” room.

That said, you have beige wall to wall underneath, so with your wall color and matching rug color, I suggest dark brown leather with neutral pillows, as it looks like it is office area, too.

I would definitely use that rug. Nice things are to be enjoyed not stored. Persian rugs are made to last. Leather couch is good idea but make sure that is quality leather and not anything like bonded leather, leather match, Eco leather etc.

All of my Iranian friends have cream coloured leather in with their rugs. Dark reds, dark blues, silk whites, the rug colour didn't seem to matter - they all had cream coloured, high end italian leather furniture. They also had multiple rugs going on...everywhere. And why not? The best rugs in the world will wear for 100 years before they start to look "worn".

If gray is not your colour, then don't do it. It is a trend (a nice one...but a trend). If you are partial to leather furniture and wish to work with the carpet, then go with what ever makes you happy. The sofa, and definitely the rug, will outlast the trend for "gray".

An alternative to cream is the "oh so traditional" cognac" - which would be a very close match to the furniture in the picture.

So is the middle light blue? I thought its light gray.

Leather is very nice, but another alternative that you may want to consider is linen- I know it sounds scary, but being a mom of 5, it is surprisingly easy to clean and very durable and comes in lots of colors

A dark, rich brown leather sofa set would work well along with a variety of colored throw pillows that tie in your gorgeous rug. Have you considered color-matching the walls to the blue in the carpet? If you did, maybe a cobalt blue sofa with some striped pillows in blues and bright tangerine.
