You can buy individual kitchen cabinets at the big box home stores. Put one over the cabinet that you have now and put some of the clutter behind doors. Then you can use the end of the cabinet and the wall next to the sink to hang a closet bar, also available at the big box store.

6.6 x 8 is not too small. If you plan it right, you can get a whole lot of function in the room

I wish I had your laundry space! If this was mine, I would install kitchen cabinet uppers on both sides of the room for storage and with cabinet doors to hide the clutter. Keep the uppers on the blank wall shallow so the traffic flow isn't blocked and with nothing below so you have a place for the laundry basket. You could go with matching your existing base cabinet or go with a bright cheery colour. I would recess your laundry taps so your washer sits flush with the dryer. And if you don't need the laundry sink, install a dog washing station in the same spot and close to the floor. Over top of that, install a hanging clothes rack for drying clothes and wet coats. If you can, replace the floor with something outdoorsy like stone. Finally, I would replace the door with one that had either 2/3rd or full window. If security is a concern, choose a door with internal grills. Good luck!
