We like the Best by Broan fans. We put in more blower units inside of cabinetry than we do metal chimney style hoods but we have not had complaints about either. Remember that if the cfm's of your fan are greater than 400 cfm, then make-up air must be addressed in accordance with the mechanical codes. We have found that appliance stores do not tell customers this.

Thank you for your input and time! Is Best a model by Broan? I have looked online at the Broan site and have been looking at the QP3 and QP4 models. But now we are considering putting one within a wooden frame as we think it may be less noisy. Do they make a model that can be inserted within a wood frame. We do need approx. 600 CFM's. Any thoughts on this?

Best by Broan is actually a separate website. I don't think the product lines overlap, but both are part of the Broan company.

Check your stove manual for the distance directly above the stove for unprotected wood. The minimum is 30". This includes a wood hood surround. Many gas stoves have an even greater clearance.

M1901.1 Clearances.
Freestanding or built-in ranges shall have a vertical clearance above the cooking top of not less than 30 inches (762 mm) to unprotected combustible material.

M1503.4 Makeup air required.
Exhaust hood systems capable of exhausting in excess of 400 cubic feet per minute (0.19 m3/s) shall be provided with makeup air at a rate approximately equal to the exhaust air rate. Such makeup air systems shall be equipped with a means of closure and shall be automatically controlled to start and operate simultaneously with the exhaust system.

This means that if you get a 600 cfm exhaust hood, you need another 600 cfm fan blowing air into the house while using the hood. Even during WINTER.
