Master bedroom bay window

I have a long narrow bedroom with a bay window on the long end. It measures 8ft by 3ft. I have two large chairs on either side of my queen bed therefore more chairs or a love seat seems too much. Any unique ideas besides desk/chair, small chair/table, plants? New wood floor will be going in also.

Oops, thought I did. I'm new to Houzz :) Under the window is a sample of the wood flooring we are going to add to the bedroom. Really nervous now, not sure of color (already bought the wood from Costco) and then theres the rugs that I'll need next, ugh.

Why not put the chairs with a side table in the middle in the window area?

I would also remove the curtain panels and go with Roman shades;) rest arrow on pic to enlarge

Hi there! I'm sure your hardwood will turn out fine - you almost can't go wrong with hardwood colors. If you plan to get a rug, this will cover most of it anyway.

I agree with Margo that the most logical solution is to relocate your chairs and set up a reading nook in the bay window area. Alternatively, just leave that space bare. It doesn't seem to be screaming out for something to fill it in :)

Nice ideas! Just got the duvets for windows so they have to stay. Wanted Roman Blinds but too costly and I like to see the sky at night and in the morning so I do love these.

I did move chairs to window, (they seem a little large for the scale of the area but could just be me) may try it for awhile but now I need another chair on my side of bed to drop clothes on and such (c'mon don't we all do that).

I think I may have changed my mind on hardwood here. The room in is 23x14 and I would probably need to add at least 2-3 rugs. Also am putting in wood floors in 3 other bedrooms, I'll decide after those are done.

Hmmm.......how about if you put one chair back to your side of the bed and just have one chair in the bay - the one on the left? And then use a slightly larger side table beside it? You are right - they are quite to both be fitting into that nook. But there's no rule that says you have to have two chairs in there! You may even be able to place a small apothecary type lamp in there as well, if you need so e extra lighting in the room anyway. That would make that little vignette complete. Oh, and a cute little lumbar pillow on the chair!

I should mention that if you do decide to put hardwood in the bedroom, you can have a rug made to a custom size quite easily by having a carpet store cut and bind wall-to-wall carpeting into an area rug. You don't need the rug to be too much bigger than a standard 8X11. You could have it cut to 8X14, which leaves 4 1/2' on each end - the approximate depth of the bay on the one end, and an equal amount on the other. It is inexpensive to do this - less than the cost of many ready-made area rugs.

The two samples below are from Shaw Floors. I would pick a pattern or texture that doesn't necessarily have "broadloom" written all over it.

Awesome advise on the the carpet! I love that pattern too. I'm feeling new bedding...

Well, if you're going to get new bedding, do that first and then get the rug/carpet. Yes, these things have a way of snowballing!
