Really struggling with this small dining room!

I am starting a new thread with updated pictures for more advice. I lean toward neutrals in my home. I want this dining room to be glamorous and moreover, just beautiful but I have no idea how to do this. Pretty much everything in this room is new so it can be returned outside of the chandelier. The table doesn't have much time if I did return. I think maybe a new light and possibly the rug. Can you help me?

Oh but then you probably don't want to get involved with returning the RH rod. Nevermind.
I hate traverse rods. Over time they break and tangle. Anyway, we all love the rods, so no go.
Oh, just read your earlier post. That is disappointing. I have purchased from OKL, but I have been careful with them and will be even more careful from now on. Sometimes what they have on sale is exactly the same product as Overstock. They hype their quality beyond reason.

Yeah, you are ordering the drapes. I think they are a great value. If I wasn't broke because of car trouble, I might order them myself. How long is that sale on, Stef?

Make sure you understand how many pleats you are getting so you can order the exact number of rings asap because with RH who knows how long you will have to wait.

You must use rings with the kind of rod you have. Now what you need is a long plastic rod to attach to the inner of each side so that you don't put your fingers on the material when you close it. They are available in a lot of places. Ikea has them for about a dollar. I don't know if HPD has them.

You should call them. No, you shouldn't wait, well not more than a few days. Call them and get all the specifics absolutely straight. You should ask about the pleat size and for Karen's sake, ask how deep they sew it down. The sale might cause them to run out of some material and you would have to wait for them to reorder.
Stefanie, according to hpd's official facebook page ( https://www.facebook.com/halfpricedrapes) the sale on silk curtains ends on June 30, 2014.
I think they will look much better than RH pole pocket, much.
If the sale lasts for another month (which based on the facebook page it does), I don't see the need to rush into buying before talking to them. I think the pleats will look nicer and to have the flexibility to actually close the curtains and still have them look nice means that you can wait a little while to get romans.

You don't need to buy this weekend without talking to them. You should have them explain everything to you to your satisfaction.

I agree with Ramona, pleated is much better than rod pocket.
You will feel more comfortable if you talk to one of their reps about the construction. But, for me, this is a no brainer.
Having sewed my own drapery for years and used professional drapery workrooms, I would go with the HPD drapery. For the difference in money you will be dealing with a company who specializes in making draperies at all levels from standard to custom. With the HPD drapes you will get a better product all the way around—buckram in the heading, pleats of your choice, lining, weights inside the hem, etc. This construction should make them hang and look better than the RH drapes.

That small price difference over time is not worth all the manipulation you will have to do to the RH drapes with nothing more than the hopes that they will please you in the end. With The HPD drapes you can immediately see the pleats and if anything is not right, they will fix it. I would not want my friendship intertwined in this project, especially with silk fabric, which is not as forgiving as other materials.

I personally love the more updated look of the inverted pleat for your room. But, if you like the French Pleat, perhaps a good compromise would be the Euro Pleat where it is similar to the French Pleat but stitched at the top rather than the bottom of the pleat.

I would call the people at HPD and ask:

•To speak to a senior drapery consultant at HPD, rather than whomever answers the phone. Tell them you have technical questions. (Best to get your technical advice from the highest source possible.)

•To email them a photo of your window so they can better address your concerns.

•Is the standard lining material best suited for the silk fabric in question, or should you upgrade? The lining can greatly affect how the drapes hang. Since it is silk you need good protection from the sun even on a North facing window. You also want to show off the subtle stripe to its best advantage. (The lining in the current RH drape is not doing that.)

•What issues might you have in using the Inverted Pleat in your application compared to other pleats?

•Will the drapes come to you fan or flat folded?

•What is their cost for the “Drapery Baton Wands” for opening/closing drapes?
    http://www.interiormall.com/75045-341-Steel-Baton-Almond

Another thought would be to ask a professional drapery installer how much they charge to set and dress the pleats so that they hang well. (Yellow Pages under drapery workrooms or installers) You only need to leave them banded for just a few days, not weeks, and must not crush the pleats in the process. Silk wrinkles quickly.

    Hope all goes well.

    * Ask them if the silk drapes will come with the flannel Interliner like their Dupionni silk drapes.

I understand from reading some of the reviews their customer service is lacking. So I did some research for you.

We will be moving it around more once the console gets here since I need to make sure and have adequate room. Not everyone wanted sisal but I love it and I love the linen!! Hubby very pleased. Off to the deck!
    Looks great!
Stephanie--as a former custom drapery fabricator, a 48" width per panel would allow the curtains to close, but make sure the size and price is PER PANEL, which seems to be the case, from what I can see on the website. $578 per panel for real silkseems excessively high, compared to the $238 per panel for the faux silk. Also makae sure you get the lined and interlined option, which means there is a flannel lining in between the silk and the regular lining, and is the same construction you will get on the faux silk as well. If you get the HPD curtains, will you be getting the solid or the stripe?
Nancy which texture do you prefer -- Thai or Dupioni if they are just plain and not stripped?
Stephanie, since sisal is a coarse and abrasive material, should you put a felt pad under it to protect your floors?
    Love the rug Stefanie.

House Beautiful has a room this month with a lovely pair of drapes with french pleats hanging on a curtain rod. Wish I had a picture to show you. Anyways, I thought of this thread when I saw them.

Taking a break from the deck- exhausting work. This rug has a rubber pad backing so the floor is protected. I planned on purchasing our own pad because even though they make custom rug sizes, they won't for the pad (beyond me) but the current backing is already quite thick and hubby said not needed.

Nancy, they are currently 40% off which is why I am now considering them. I want to stick with the white tonal pattern I have because I also saw it at HP and liked it. I tried to stay away from interlined because my last were and made them very difficult with my 11" wall to the left. Would it be the same for these?

No dupioni. That's what the purple were and I like my current material much better. I never considered faux but I can check out the site and see if they have the same pattern?
I am able to get on via my iPhone . The rug looks perfect.

I will research hpd much further in next few days.

I have another source for silk drapes, but they do not have tonal stripe.

I am interested in ordering from hpd myself, so I will be invested in checking them out.

I hate typing on these tiny keyboards.

The rug and curtain look fantastic in this room, perhaps you might want to experiment with some wall art stickers to complement them? That white wall is just asking for it! Maybe these designs would interest you? You can browse our site for more designs:

You could really stand to have some new decor added to the room...such as some very nice wall art...possibly a mirror. Bargain Backer has some very inexpensive decor to choose from. Right now they have a sale on their Paragon wall art which would go well. http://www.bargainbacker.com/Paragon_c_8817.html Use this code to save 10% on Paragon "paragon10fall"

Can I ask what wall color you used? It is so stunning!

Keep it clean and simple! Thats my take:)

I would suggest that you raise the sunburst mirror so that it is six to 12 inches higher than the top of the table. I would suggest white crown molding to accentuate the wall/ceiling juncture of the room. A white table cloth will accentuate the crown molding and the white in the area rug. I do believe adding this much white will brighten the room and still keep it neutral.

Could I trouble you again for the wall color by chance? I can't seem to find it in my thread for some reason, and it is so beautiful I would love to try it out in our space! :) Thanks so much!!

Rachel - I believe it's tony taupe by Sherwin Williams.

Thanks so much!! it is so pretty!

You should definitely try to get some color in the room, a pop of color. I would suggest flowers or a decorative art for the wall to bring it to life.

    good idea!

I love everything in the room! However, I believe the room would be best accentuated if you would add white-painted crown molding around the wall/ceiling juncture of the room. In keeping with this, I would suggest you add a white-painted chair rail and white-painted bead board to create wainscoting around the room to break up the large amount of plain, light grey wall space. I love the purple curtains, but they might look better divided into upper and lower tiers on the upper and lower parts of the window so that they would add some fullness and softness to the room. I believe the slimmer kind of chandelier goes better with the large horse painting because the slimmer chandelier allows a person to see the painting more clearly.
