Dark floors good or bad?

We are debating whether or not to stain our floors a dark mahogany stain. How are your floors holding up? Are you happy with the stain? Does it make the room dark? Any comments are appreciated!

We have had dark wood floors for almost five years now and would never choose light wood.
Nothing seems dark. They ground the atmosphere in a pleasant way.

Dory, we recently had our 1929 floors refinished to dark walnut with a satin finish (similar to this photo). We have two golden retrievers and although I love the appearance, the floors show EVERYTHING. I vacuum daily because the dust and dog hair is so visible. Also, for some reason, the scratches from the dog nails are more apparent with the darker stain. Good luck! We were initially going to do ebony (super dark), thank goodness we didn't!

We have dark floors too. They are beautiful, however, it's an effort to keep them looking beautiful as they do show everything. With kids and dogs it's a challenge :/

A satin or matte poly finish will help to curb the visible dust or dander.
