Replace worn carpet with carpet or hardwood

My 20 year old carpet in the upstairs of my traditional colonial house is in need of replacing. I have red oak in the entire downstairs. What would be the best value; new carpet, traditional hardwood to match or prefinished hardwood? I don't anticipate being in this house for more than 3 to 5 years. What are buyers looking for?

Is this space mostly bedrooms? If so the least expensive would be a good quality carpet. If going with hardwood you would want it to match downstairs . Most people like carpet or at least rugs in the bedrooms anyway.
