Hi. Looking at the rest of the room your style is quite glamorous, for dressing the mantel, what about reflective or mirrored vases? Or maybe two tall candle sticks either side with a few smaller things in between. A black rug maybe to heavy for the room, a rug that was mainly white with a little black would be better or maybe grey.

Hi! I like all of your suggestions. I like both rugs but I think the Ambiance would have more impact. Any thoughts on the corner china cabinet in the dining room? I forgot to remove the fabric a test. Thank you!

It is a really cool idea to paint it black and cover the windows with linen, it will make it look like a oriental screen if I am understanding what you are planning to do.

I would use ivory vases and ivory candlesticks of different sizes on the mantel. That way you get some size and depth without over powering. I like your room.

I agree that you have a glamorous touch! nice space. seems that you do need a little sparkle/metal/mirrored surface happening either on the mantel or on the walls. the watercolour work is beautiful, you're lucky to have such a boyfriend!

I thought your mantel was really nice. Not enough people use restraint, and they have too much going on.

You might though move the (bronze bust?) over to the table next to the fireplace and introduce something metal/shiny and slightly (just slightly) taller than the bust is.

Is it possible to adjust the chandelier so that it can be swagged over and centered with the fireplace?

And move the livingroom sisal to the dining room? The border is driving me a little crazy, like it makes it more casual than the elegance going on everywhere else...

And yes to painting the corner cabinet black. I think that would be sharp! Or go with gray color that Is below the chair rail...

I also want to change up your centerpiece. So that If you want to add height between the table and chandelier, you might go. Littler simpler, like this photo, and maybe the branches could have purple buds like smoke tree, or lavender or somehow bring that color in over in the dining area...





I'd suggest straight glass cylinder vases rather than the curvy ones in the top photo.

Oh! Another idea I was considering is painting either the walls on either side of the mantel or the center wall above the mantel a light taupe. Thoughts? Just call me crazy because it never stops:)
