Agree with JudyG. You have nice basics, but too much 'stuff' sitting out. It looks like you have every surface and shelf stuffed to the gills. I would start out by removing everything from every shelf and surface and put back sparingly.

Also, remove the mirror from its current location. It looks like an after thought placed there until you can find a home for it.

IMO the bookshelf is too large for the area where you have it placed - it is also too crowded with books and surface material. Is there another spot in the house for the bookshelf?

I agree with the too much stuff, trying to de-clutter my life at the moment!
The mirror really is just there till I get a door on the closet, going to hang it on the inside of the door.
The book case is going too (thinking about something with drawers to hide all the stuff we are keeping).
There isn't much space to walk, we've tried MANY room layouts and this is the best one so far. The bed under the window created the least space.

Do you have room under your bed for storage? I think once you get sort through your things you will have more room than it appears at first glance.

That definitely has potential, my concern is installing them onto the walls :/ luckily most places have a good return policy so I can experiment a bit

its that the lamps are the wrong style for the loose airy feel you are trying to get. maybe some clear seeded glass ones with a fat base would look better.....

the above have a cork shade which is kinda fitting...and breaks up all the dark wood and decal...

Please do not put another tree in the room.The room would look more like a garden and bedrooms can do without them.I feel you could put up wall lamps, go for a shorter or flush fixture.Lighting has always been a very important aspect in improving that overall aesthetic appeal of every room. Without enough lighting, a room is bound to give off a dull and unexciting experience to anyone who enters it.

If you do consider attaching your lamps to the wall, make sure the bed is exactly where you plan to keep it.

Fake trees would invite a lot of dust.

They are cute and inexpensive. You can have the drop down rod conceal the wire. I would drop them down behind the nightstands. From there, have the 2 wires meet on the floor in the middle of the bed and plug them into an extension cord, then leave the extension cord plugged in. Control the lights from the little knobs on the mounting plate. It's easy! I have them in my guest room and they are great!

As far as the tree goes, I like the concept but probably would have chosen a branch look instead of the entire tree. It's the trunk that is making the room look too heavy IMO Something like this, minus the lettering:

Thanks all for the comments, I'd like to take the focus off the lamps (because it isn't much of a priority) and move to the very empty looking wall with the lonely picture on it. So far I know I am going to frame it in a dark frame but looking for any other suggestions on that wall. :)

I love using family photos lined up horizontally. 8 by 10 with dark frames using a colour mat to add a pop: Purple, aqua, lemon yellow. What ever colour makes you happy.

I was thinking a very narrow padded bench only if there is enough room and then a gallery wall. Looking for pics now for you, here is a narrow bench (hover to expand photo)

There are tons of gallery wall ideas on Houzz...here are a couple. I happen to like the gallery wall to have some continuity by either frame color or matt color or both. Others prefer a more eclectic look. Here are a couple of examples: It is a good place for family photos

Found one that is an art shelf - can be used for framed photos too. This could be really interesting in your bedroom as you can add and change around the framed photos easily and the shelf is very, very narrow


Here is a variation on the art shelf idea - floating shelves. You can get them in any size so they aren't as deep as these appear to be in the photo below

How about something like this one?

Start with downsizing your photos. Put them in an album that you can look at from time to time. After that, run two rows of white gallery art shelves for your big wedding photo and edited-down photos and art work as Denita suggests.

A mirror on the wall like this one from Overstock where you have the other photo would open up the room and reflect light from the window across the way. Then put a narrow small half-moon table or cabinet below it to store things--very narrow so you can walk by. I agree that more elegant lamps would help. If you do table lamps, have clear bases.

Brittannieee, have you measured the location of your bed? It seems to me that the bed would look better moved 6 inches toward the windows and there ought to be a few more inches between the nightstands and the bed. Open the space up a little bit. Looks like there is room to do that without crowding your bed or your dresser.

What do you have on the window, just one set of curtain panels? Or do you have shades too? Can't really see from the photo.

Housegal200 has a good point about paring down the photos to just a few important ones on that proposed gallery wall.

One last point, the photo between the entry door and the closet door should be a vertical photo rather than a horizontal one. The horizontal photo crowds the door frames. The photo should float in the middle between the frames and be a little bit lower (5 ft from the floor).
I'm sure you have a great collection of wedding photos to find just the right one. :)

So I haven't read all if the comments on this post, so you might have decided to do something else. But I think changing the window curtains would really help!
