Personally think cabinets along the ceiling would disrupt the clean sight lines you're trying to achieve...extend counter into den and place wine storage cabinets under it.

Hi, what are your plans for the brick in the other room? Some open shelves there would be great for showcasing wine, and free the kitchen area up for other needs.

Wine needs to be in a cool place so near the ceiling is not it. We also have a ranch we redid and we actually put our kitchen in the dining space and changed out the kitchen for dining to give us the kitchen we needed.

@ dclostboy good point I need to think about that, although it is a long ceiling breaking it there might not be a bad idea.
@ Patricia in our current wine rack the wine doesn't last more than a few weeks so the location shouldn't be a problem. The better wine goes in my refrigerator.

Open ceiling will make the space feel airy and larger. Breaking the line of sight will defeat purpose.

HI -- I'm sorry but I hate pass thru's ! And the one shown is not even with the door or the window . And the fact that is also out lined with white molding on a dark wall color just makes things worse . And the trim and the wainscoting is so country . Is that the direction your going with your decorating ? I would have torn that wall out for better flow . But back to the wine . There are some nice wine racks that could go on that brick wall . The bottles sit sideways and could make a statement . Maybe ones that are in chrome would look good against the brick . Wine stored up near the ceiling is not good for the wine and is going to look very rumpus room . I for one are not liking the wine displayed out in the open but rather stored in a cabinet or in a wine fridge in the kitchen . Your house shouldn't look like a steakhouse . I love the brick wall and that is a great ceiling fan !

How much wine are we talking about here? Sounds to me like there might be enough entertaining and wine drinking going on that no one will notice your interior at all! Seriously--you sound like fun people to be around. Good luck. If you're not in the market for a wine cellar, put it in a lower cabinet under the counter or buy one of those wine refrigerators or incorporate one into the peninsula design.

I think you will not be happy with the flow unless you tear out the wall. Can you take some photos of the other kitchen walls? The exposed brick is wonderful . . . . though dark, so depending on the color scheme you plan you may want to make soem cosmetic adjustments . . .

Check to see if it is a load bearing wall.

Just an update to my original post. The wall is a load bearing wall so no wine rack or cabinets along the ceiling, honestly once the wall came down we liked the open space. As you can see from the photo we incorporated the counter top from the peninsula onto the knee wall we left. The kitchen is still a work in progress, I will post some photos when finished.

Since it would have to be plugged in I don't think so.

HI -- Much better now that the pass through is gone . I think you could put a wine fridge and racks where the bakers rack is now . That's where I would have one anyway . So glad to see you have kept the brick wall . That wine rack storage cabinet shown above could also go beside the big fridge .

Actually thinking about adding a wine rack at the end of the peninsula, we already have a wine refrigerator for our better wines.
