My kitchen top is all white - is that okay? I spoke with a design associate and she didn't recommend me going with white because it would bring the kitchen into the living space? Thanks.

I think it depends on what else you want to do with the space. Everything is so neutral at this point and I don't think glass would add anything. The space is connected to the kitchen, and white is a neutral, so I think it could be something to consider. Something that you might do that might be a help would be to decide what type of art and other decor accessories that you wanted in the living room, for example over the sectional and take colors and ideas from there. But you do need art and pattern in the room as well and that might be something to chose and then use that as a base for a coffee table decision.

A round shape will be easier on the knees. You might want to consider a wooden element to repeat your cabinetry. This one from West Elm is affordable with an interesting sculptural quality that might appeal to you.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm leaning towards a mesabi black granite coffee table to sort of differentiate the area from the kitchen. What color rug would go well? I was thinking of a dark grey shag rug. Thank you for the help!

I like your coffee table choice. I like the idea of the gray shag rug as well, but you might want to think about where you want to go with art before deciding on the rug.

I agree in that you should look at other elements - wood, maybe a leather ottoman with a large tray to place on top so it can serve two functions. For the design of your sectional, I would recommend a round coffee table for more visual interest. If you do decide to go with a table with a white top, I would add a few accent pillows and artwork (either a long rectangular piece or artwork that is divided among panels and space it out a little bit) to the space to take off some of the starkness. If you wanted to cozy the place up just a bit, you could add a nice floor lamp and/or a floor plant.

I think you should go with something square or rectangular, it will go great with the sharp edges of the sectional.
