Hi! One of the first things that I notice in this room is that the shelf above the tv has a lot of items on it, and it appears a bit busy, and may be making your room look small. I would remove the shelf, and move the chair that is beside the console table somewhere else. I would also consider purchasing a larger media storage center for under the tv:

Console should be 25% wider than the TV if you begin the search for one. I'm hoping all the plants on the table in the corner can find a home outside for the summer. A big chunk of your space is right there. From these 4 pix, I'd advise removal of the corner table by the sofa. Turn the sofa to face the TV if there is no doorway in the corner right of the sconces and picture (can't see that corner.) Use the drop leaf table and lamp that is by the kitty stoop on one side of the sofa, and consider painting it. I get the impression the lamp by the big corner table may be a floor lamp, so put it on the other side of the sofa. Move the rocker where the sofa was. If the rug is rectangular, turn it so the long side edge slips under the front of the sofa. When you take more pix, open the curtains so we can see the window.

First impressions: the room wouldn't seem so small if it weren't crammed full. I can't see enough to know if that's the best wall for the TV, but I will assume you have it mounted and have cable connections there, so we'll leave it for now. Your furniture is bulky for a small room, so you really need to minimize your other stuff to make it seem more spacious. Heavy drapes and just too much stuff in general are weighing the room down.

Here is your TV wall with a long console (actually two, the Threshold Windham from Target) and your TV lowered to meet it, your two pieces of art on the right and your yellow ceramic on the left for balance. I chose white to lighten the room. Just enough, IMO.

Replace the coffee table with your green ottoman. Natural colored drapes will lighten the room.

Lighter draperies, fewer throws/pillows, fewer tabletop items, etc. Just remove almost everything and bring back the things you absolutely need to function or need to see daily. The throws could be closer to the color of your sofa and tucked in [these are to protect from your cat, I suppose.]

Your photos make the walls look gold. Is that the true color of the room? Neutralize the room by painting the walls a color from your area rug that is lighter.

In the corner where your table is, remove the table and place a bookcase on the wall, facing the sofa. You need some display space and this would give it to you, using the upper spaces of the room. This case should match or coordinate with the tv unit. A finish in a white would be nice for both pieces - helping keep the room looking more spacious.

Not having a floor plan makes it tough to go any farther with furniture placement, etc. . .

Your area rug is nice and you need to use the colors in that for reference when choosing just about everything else in your LR. The colors of throws, accent pillows, table cover, should be taken right out of this rug.

The kennel under the table in the corner is probably in the right place for that. The issue then is to make that corner as finished looking as possible and not just an afterthought. Find some fabric for a table cover that is dressier. Drapery or upholstery fabric would have more body, drape nicely and look more polished.

Companion fabrics could be used in drapery panels that hang to the floor, and scattered pillows. These could be a solid color or subtle pattern.

Years ago we were covering round tables with floor length tablecloths and this solved many challenges for people. You could do a version of this by using the above ideas. Bring the front of the fabric lower on the door to camouflage that opening a little more.

Rethink the items on the tabletop. A chunkier lamp, with added, more decorative, objects. A mature, healthy plant or 2 are fine but use pretty pots in colors that work with your area rug.

-- Some fabric swatches in companion patterns. Colors not necessarily taken from your rug but you would look for the right colors/patterns.

-- Uncover the chair still draped with the throw and towels. Enjoy your furniture! At least figure out covers that work with everything else in the space.

Longer console. Remove tables that aren't absolutely necessary. Rearrange furniture so the rocker is out of the entry. Edit your accessories and plants.

Oops. I see I forgot the cat roost. Move the console down a bit and put it in the corner.

If you are willing and able to move the TV, the plan below is, IMO, a better layout because it reduces (though doesn't eliminate) the traffic between TV and viewers.

Hmmm. I just moved the table that was in front of the tv and replced it with an old coffee table, flanked by two kitchen chairs. I can't buy a console yet. I'm not liking it this way. I used to have the tv where you just suggested, so I don't have to do any more drilling. I'll mull this over for a while!

-- The table you had in the first pix is the right height for standing under the tv. Have you thought about shopping for a tv cabinet at a thrift shop? Many people are abandoning them because they are mounting flat screens on the wall now - donating their cabinet. These are really reasonable at thrift shops, consignment stores, garage sales, etc.

You could also repurpose an old buffet, dresser, sideboard, etc. for this purpose. I think the challenge will be to find something hefty-looking enough [like the scale of a tv console is] - and a little longer than your tv, so that the combination of the tv and case piece look right together. Of course, this found piece could be cleaned up, painted, re-stained, etc. and look great! Something with storage is an extra perk. . .

If you are not up for this shopping, move the original table back to the space under the tv and go on from there.

Right now your room looks very full of mismatched furniture and many dated colour schemes, why not start from scratch, and paint the whole thing white, get a white cover for the sofa, and edit your stuff...take out those chairs, those old cupboards,the many nik naks and that granny rug...put up white nets in a good quality slubbed voile...go for a shabby chic look, in pretty floral print pillows...paint your favourite returnees ....but be selective...

I am a granny! And I'm not keen on white. Old fashioned gal! :)

I'm going to the second hand shops tomorrow to see what I can find! I removed the coffee table from under the tv and replaced it w/ a bureau from my bedroom. Looks much better! Still going to look for something different.

Scatter pillows are a great way to bring color into a room but they have to be the right color. If you miss them, take colors from your rug for them - softer, older, more subtle colors. Some pattern would work also, but only after you have figured out draperies and kennel cover. These things are a bigger investment and you usually want to work from large items to smaller things,

This is more cohesive and updated since everything works together.

What's the story with the tv console? Did you find it during your shopping spree? It just needs some TLC, actually. The size works too, giving you space for the kitty condos on each side.

The cover on the kennel table could be a darker color. Here is where you can pick up one of the dusty colors in your rug. The white is too white, pulling attention to itself. If you toned it down, it would blend in better. Nice full plant!

I'm pretty happy! Such great advice! Definitely need ideas with my artwork . The bureau is from my bedroom . I would love to paint it but my husband won't hear of it. I will keep looking for something more appropriate. I will darken the crate cover, too! Looking for new drapes and coordinating pillows as well. There is a dusty blue/grey in the rug that's pretty. I'm not sure how blue would work with the pumpkin walls. I want to paint them light beige, but that won't be for a while. So much to do! :)
