What is the proper name for the white trim pieces around the sides and overhang of this Garrison Colonial? I have a similar house, and think this helps to add a nice visual nuance to the house.

If one wanted to add this trim, would it involve removing the existing siding and installing in its place? Or does this trim sit over top?
