Greige,olive or greyed green will look well w wood and long drapes. If you are willling to change the drapery, blue-green shades can be added to the list.You might also consider darkening the cabinets, to differentiate them from the floors more.

The red makes it modern but if you are ready for a change, then what colors are in the drapery? If changing wall color means changing drapery then change the drapery first and see if you like the red better again. I would go for a light neutral, regardless it's gray, beige etc because it looks like your kitchen is on the small side.
And I would replace the curtains.:)
I think bold, dark, saturated colors are more for a powder room and bedroom but less when it comes to living space, kitchen.

Keep the red walls... paint the top of table same red... paint some base cabinets red, paint the rest of the cabinets a warm grey.... Get some decent lights.

You are right, I did not mean modern, I meant contemporary. The drapes are not contemporary though, so some people might read the red as preppy rather than mod.
Greige neutrals are going to make the cabinets read as very orange, and I can't recommend them with natural oak.

Depending on the light and the gray the cabinets might also look more like honey/mustard and if so , at leas for me, it's a beautiful light color palette. I'd even go for a darker gray

I think a robins egg or light turquise blue would look great as an accent wall with some grey walls.

Choosing gray is not always easy and my advice is to buy a sample first, paint a big white board and tape to the wall next to your cabinets, and watch the color for at least one day. Then, if you like it post the board in the livingroom .

Replacing the lights will definitely bring a lot to your kitchen.

If you have a calling towards green , I'd choose one that is greyed green, sage green or olive green. Spanish olive, Overcast by Benjamin Moore would be my choices in this case.
