It's hard to be sure of the exact shades of color based on the photos, but it appears your color scheme is gray, cream, teal and light brown. The art above the couch appears to be browns/blues.

I'm a little confused by the wall color. It could be the lighting. It looks gray with pink hues. Is that correct? Or is the pinkish tone a result of the light coming through the window?

I've selected area rugs to compliment the furnishings in the group setting and tie in the accents and curtains in the background as well.

Thanks a lot for your comments.Christi, you are right about wall color. It is grey with pink hue to it.I would like to add nesting tables because if you look closer none of the coffee tables serve their purpose due to the wrong choice of sitting. The furniture was too expensive to change,so I tried to make the best of it.The main colors of the room are grey and off white.Although the art carries some blues, reds and yellows.Do you think I can add another color to the room?

What is the arm height of sofas and chairs. How much of a budget do you have?

Hi inna. Thank you. The additional photos help quite a bit. I can see what you're saying about the coffee tables not serving a functional purpose. There are two things going on there. 1) they're too low for the arm height of the couch; and 2) there's an imbalance in the setting with having one lamp instead of two (one on each coffee table). My concern for you is that adding nesting tables to the side chairs will make the grouping feel very crowded. Would you be interested in changing the configuration around a little?

Perhaps move the sofa's into an "L" position and put the 2 side chairs next to one another with one table in between them across from the sofa that is relocated. That gives both chairs a table. Also, there's a lot of unused space between this grouping and the window. I see a chair in the corner. Is there a pair? If so, could they be placed by the window with one of the end tables between them to alleviate all of the furnishings being clustered around the sofas?

As to adding color -- absolutely! You can draw off the colors in the art work and have a more colorful area rug and throw pillows. I wouldn't go with red because of the pinkish hue in the walls. I think adding blues are your best best.

Dear Houzzers! The original post was about the rug but I was given some advice regarding furniture arrangement,so I came up with this. This is the only other way that this furniture actually fits. Can you have a look and give your opinion on the before and after the shift.

Inna, what's most important is how you feel about this arrangement. How does it feel to you? I think it opens things up. If you think it's a good start for changing things, there's a few more adjustments that need to be made. The first is that now a new rug can be seen, so the colors you choose for the rug will give this space more definition. The second is, the art needs to be centered over the sofa. The third is: lamps are needed on both end tables to give the room balance. The fourth: do you still want nesting tables?

Try the two chairs at the window with a table between them as a separate sitting area. I will send pics of furniture pieces in a minute.

The new arrangement makes more sense but fells like chesterfield swallowed the room.Obviously the rug is still a burning issue. Not sure about nesting tables with this kind of arrangement .Unfortunately I cannot find the same lamps. If the arrangement is to stay, definitely the art will be adjusted.
To bysesign: do you suggest to spread the chairs and put the table in between or push the chairs back to separate them a bit from the sofa ?Thanks a lot

The new layout looks much more open. You could definitely use another table lamp on the left side of the sofa against the back wall to help make the look more balanced.
As for a rug, I would recommend a soft wool like our True in the color Stone to pick up on the soft greys in your decor. ( http://www.curranfloor.com/weave.php?weavename=true) This particular weave is made from 100% natural undyed wool with an organic jute backing.

We can make custom-sized area rugs to the nearest inch. Rugs are finished with fabric binding or can be serged. A contrasting fabric binding could help to pick up some of the other colors in your decor. Attached is an image of the weave close-up, and how it looks in a room.

I believe bisesign is suggesting what I suggested earlier. Relocate the two side chairs to the window (the one with the teal curtain) on the other side of the room and put one of the end tables between them (the end table being centered on the window and the two chairs on either side). The idea is to spread the furniture out as opposed to clustering it into one spot when there's a lot of vacant space in this large room asking to be filled.

It would be good to get your concerns with this room figured out before moving on to the next adjoining sitting room. Do you like any of the area rugs that have been suggested so far? If not, what issues with the area rug would you like us to address for you?

Does your budget allow for more than a new area rug? If we can help you with an arrangement that works and you don't need nesting tables, could you use those funds to purchase two new matching lamps for the end tables should you decide to keep the end tables where they currently are?

Thank you for your patience and time.As far as I understand you suggest to push the armchairs away from the sofas. The problem is that if I am to put a side table in between, the sofa at the wall is going to visually overlap the armchair. Is there any rule of placing sofas so they do not overlap.I photo stitched the lamps and you are right, the room looks more balanced,I also think that I need new large piece of art instead of two identical ones.
Regarding the rugs that were suggested ,I lean towards the off white with blue tuffing.
What kind of side table would you use between the armchairs?
I think that two square ottomans( stools) might work really well opposite to the wall sofa.

I like your idea to replace the two pieces of art with one large piece. I think another piece of art would open up color options for you and give the room a whole new dimension. Am posting some art ideas for your consideration.

Yes, try moving the arm chairs away from the sofas. Put them at an angle on either side of the window and then you can put a nesting table between them. I don't know how big the two square ottomans are, but if they fit in front of the chairs without making things scrunched up, they might work nicely there.

Move one sofa where the two chairs were so the sofas are facing one another again, leave the end tables where they've always been and put the bench seat under the art.

See if this works for you. If it doesn't, you can always return things to their original position.

Hello! This is new furniture layout I tried according to the advice.Disregard the garden stool. What do you think?
I like this furniture arrangement the best! It uses the space. Perhaps two tall green plants in the narrow cut-back areas for some height? A tall vase with some tall, willowy, flowery stems on the center coffee table would add height and color, too. Also, patterned pillows- blues and greens would work. Relatively inexpensive, easy, and easily changed. This furniture is so versatile! What fun!

I think I like it the best too.I need to find a round table in between the armchairs, another table lamp, probably large art and of course the rug.

This arrangement looks good -- it opened things up quite a bit having the chairs moved back from the sofas. The art I posted above has a broad range of colors that would marry well with the pink walls and the cream sofas/chairs. Particularly the top right photo. The color green (leaves) in that painting would be a beautiful accent color for an area rug and for throw pillows. It would also be lovely with the curtains. Just another suggestion!

Inna1975, personally, I don't think you need to find a new round table-the one already there works for me. The next, easiest fix is the wall color. "light French Grey" by Behr would be great. It's actually a pale blue. (Or a better quality paint, same color). Paint the trey ceiling the same color and that would heighten the ceiling even more. New, patterned curtains would look great. The rug, actually, works for me; too many matchy things stiffens the whole space. Keep the rug, replace the chandelier, in my opinion; a modern, black iron bulbous thing would work. I'll post pic suggestions. Also, pull the furniture off the wall, just a bit. Have all the chair/couch legs on the rug. Or all the furniture with just the front legs on the rug. Both, visually, would work.

A patchwork cowhide rug would look great and give tons of texture!

I'd go with something classic, like an 8x8 inch tile rug, or maybe one in Stripes for more color variation!

    :)
