Question about the grey siding

Hi there ! I really love what you guys did with this one and I was wondering what type of siding is the grey area ? Is it aluminium or vinyl ? And do you think that this type of material can be installed vertically like the wood that was used on this house ? We will be changing our siding on our mid-century home in the near future & I want to learn about the different options.

Thank you !

Hi Marie, the horizontal siding is HardiePlank smooth lap siding with a 5" exposure and this painted fibercement product comes factory finished with a 30 year warranty. In the multifamily housing project below we used HardiePlank in a vertical "board and batten" application (dark grey color). The siding was installed as a ventilated rainscreen over continuous insulation and exterior strapping. A more traditional use of the fibercement product in a vertical application can be seen in the lighter color of the second image. This is the HardiePanel vertical siding with batten strips spaced at 2'.
