It's a bit difficult to see what your room looks like when you're not cleaning. But I would go for quite large pieces of art, or if you prefer seeing family photos, you could have them printed on canvas. The most important thing is that you have to have things in your room that you really love to see. And that it's not too small.

The space is not that small. You have a nice, big wall, so I would put a big abstract art piece, probably something with red in it.

What about an accent wall of reclaimed wood?

I like the idea of a wood wall, but not small pieces like pix of reclaimed. Would be far too busy. My sister has wall like this in light cedar. Had large multi-photo frame custom made for the wall with smallest section for 8x10" photo. Don't make whatever goes on wall too small.

Take pictures when the furniture has been arranged, then we can see available space(s) for art. Don't buy big art pieces before the layout is determined. Big pieces are hard to work with if you're not sure where they will go.

It's really hard to tell from the photos, but would it be possible to move the dining set to the other side of the room and turn it lengthwise? And move the sofa and chair to where the dining area now is. I know that it may not make sense to you because then your sitting area would be next to the kitchen, but for some reason I think it will be a more logical layout for your room.

If you put the sofa where the dining table now is, I think you can let it float in the room so you can walk around it? You can then put the chair so it's facing the sofa, creating a cosy seating area around the fire.

Or do you have a TV in the room?

If you can post a drawing of the room, with (clearly readable) sizes of walls and doors and the size of your furniture I can try and make a sensible layout plan for you. Otherwise it's just a case of building up muscle by moving the furniture around physically.

Agree it is hard to work the room out exactly, but could you try putting the two single chairs one at each end of the lounge and at right angles to it to create a U shape and a conversation area. A rug and a coffee table could sit in the middle to tie it all together. This should allow for traffic to pass through the sitting area to the dining area.

Artwork is very personal, but you can combine family photos and art pieces on different walls and even a collection of plates on the wall where your dining setting is.

I would add art to both walls. One large one at the sofa wall. 2-3 art pieces on the dining wall. I would move the brown chair on the left side of the fireplace.
