Still love it. Yes, honed is more forgiving than polished in my opinion. Never had an issue with staining. Scratching happens now and then when sliding a heavy/pointy object. It's just common sense when it comes to avoidance. Staining hasn't been a problem at all. One etching mark where some acid (citrus) sat for too long. Marble is a beautiful NATURAL material that may show use. As long as you can accept that you will love it. Good luck with your project! Choose what you love!

I am having real trouble with marble. I see it in so many posts, but this Carrera has marked terribly. It does not stain, but the marking is downright ugly and an embarrassment. Is this normal? Can it be fixed? I am being told by the company involved (Di Pietra in Barrie, Ontario) that they will hone it, but that is all they offer. This is what I have all over the counter, and none is from acidic material.

PS- this was a problem that started immediately. It was not long-term use. The marble came from Ciott in Toronto.

It is a carrera marble. It was shiny, with a sealer to stop staining. I am relieved to hear you say it is not what you would expect, and the installers are saying the same - they have not seen it this bad, but I don't know how many go back to see how it wears. They are suggesting it be honed so it won't show up as badly. What do you think

We have done that for clients who aren't happy with the way their polished marble is wearing. Honed is more durable and hides imperfections better IMO. But again this seems extreme. Id call the yard where you got it and maybe have them take a look at it.

please post pictures! I really want to get the marble--but the samples I have etch horribly with the Dupont bulletproof sealer. I would love to find this Vitremela!

lasvegasstonepros - are you familiar with ClearStone? another product out of Australia that does the same thing to marble, and there are other people in the country that apply it. My cousin is one of them (only in southern florida though). If applied by a proper, certified installer, is guaranteed for 10 years.

Coffee stains, citrus etched, wine...well. Unless you can get this new pier5 coating I’d look at some of the look alike quartz

5 years later, I would have gone with honed or switched to a quartz selection. I just can't stand the accumulation of simple water rings and sometimes a type of platter etching on my beautiful Calcutta Gold that you can see when the light hits it at that certain angle. Not one coffee, wine or food stain.

The Australian Vitremela product is not available in the Northeast, requires professional application so not available to me to even evaluate. Dupont product may be a possibility but I think I will have it honed in the future.

This with constant wiping and treating.
