I would also think your pots and pans would scratch the marble if they were hung on the wal....l

I think the installer didn't want to do it for fear of cracking the newly installed marble.
I don't have any idea of how it is done. But I have seen installations before so it must be possible. Right? There are many talented people on this site....someone will know the answer :)

Here are a couple of thoughts for you...1) marble is a fairly soft material and will scratch and chip over a short time And 2) with the marble being soft, the interior wall should be reinforced with blocking to lessen the weight stress of the pots and hanger on the marble and drywall.

^^^If the above is the case and there isn't reinforced blocking on that wall; then go back to installing the pots and pans bar above the stove. You would need to do one bar rather than two and have it anchored into the two cabinet sides rather than the back wall. That would solve the problem (I hope). Like this:

Yes, marble can be drilled with a diamond bit. But not by someone who says it can not be done! Go to a granite, marble provider where they will have the right tools and experience. Marble is drilled all the time when bathroom fixtures, such as hanging toilets, are installed. Your main concern will be the backing and if it can hold the weight you plan.

Could you hang a bar from the ceiling attach chains and hang your copper pans from that ? Similar to this photo I found on houzz.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Even if 100 pros commented here saying its possible, you are still stuck making the decision. If the carpenter advises against it, a couple choices you have are: 1) Sign an agreement with him stating that if the tile does crack then you will take the responsibility and pay for the repair. This may not happen right away, it's possible that it happens months or years later, even possible that the pot rack comes tumbling down if it was only attached to the tile which cracked.
2) Find a carpenter that will do it. Keep in mind the liability/warranty is the core issue here. If you find someone that will do it, are they taking the responsibility if something goes wrong?

If there is a wall stud to attach it to, through the marble, it may still crack the marble when tightening down the screw that is attaching the rack to the wall. If this happens you will have to decide between removing the tile and replacing it, then relocating the pot rack; or grouting the crack and leaving it, knowing that the screw is secure into wood and the crack is cosmetic.

As a pro, I find it unlikely that the tile will crack, especially if attaching to the studs. The method of the installation is important, and I can advise on it, but would need more information and still, I would not be able to take the liability if it did crack.

I know nothing about drilling into marble. HOWEVER, marble is used in bathrooms and holes are drilled for the shower head and hot and cold water faucets. So, how is that different from drilling holes for a pot-hanger?! Just saying... As above, ask someone from a tile/granite/marble specialty store. Good luck to you. Beautiful kitchen!

Is there a way to attach it to the studs? Or add wood blocking from the other side of the wall and patch it back up? Is it just the one bar you're adding? How much weight would you like it to hold?

We know where the studs are the installer says that at least one of the sides will be directy into the stud and I want two brackets one is 24 inches long and the other is 36 inches these are the hanging tools that came in the box.

It looks like those are toggle bolts or similar, meant to hang on drywall only. They should work. Avoid hanging really heavy items like cast iron. Keep in mind everyone else's comments about marble being a softer stone that will get scratched up over time from the pots.

I hope you planned ahead to have a horizontal stud on which to secure your bar. It seems a shame to hang pots on such a lovely wall.

That doesn't make sense what he told you. If you can use Marble on shower walls and cut holes to accommodate the shower & faucets why couldn't you drill a couple of holes for a pot rack? It's very pretty by the way. It's just a matter of using the correct drill bit.

look up then for a solution:) or keep the pots under cupboards like most of us .
I also think that in time the marble will be scratched ,use suction cups for anything else you may regret drilling holes there in the future , and polishing them to keep them shiny

I have this copper pans that my husband wants displayed!! Sounds crazy I know but it's been his dream since forever!!! I think he believes we live in a mid evil castle in Italy,.. Lol

Copper and marble are approximately the same hardness. If you are careful, you should have no problems. Most scratches in marble can be repaired, if not too deep.

you said marble ,I took a second look at the picture and the tiles looks like they are ceramics to me and if they are then you can easily replace them if you drill holes in them just keep some extra tiles for the just in case :)

it's not like that is a sheet of marble. those are tiles. individual tiles can be replaced. i say go for it!

i don't usually like pots up against walls myself. i like to see them free hanging/not touching. though i rarely see a pot holder i actually like.

This is a very nice looking pot rack that hangs from the ceiling and that would certainly be my choice, how ticked would hubby be if the marble gets damaged and has to repaired.

Update!!!! So I woke up to great feedback from all of you here on houzz!!! Amazing advice and I headed out to pick up my glass inserts for my cabinets, and the rest is history!! I explained my situation to Jorge at techno glass and he said he could do it for me and followed me home! An hour later there it is!!!! Thank you all!!!!!

Labra design am in in humid Miami Fl. Thank you for taking the time to assist me and giving me hope it has been a crazy roller coaster ride with this wall!! My husband is super happy and in William Sonoma now buying another pan to complete the bottom bracket!! The company that ended up doing this work with glass and they used diamond drill bit along with water and very slowly created the hole!! I could not look but here are some pics!!!

Yes I guess these hooks are designed to keep the pans from hitting the wall.. I hope my ordeal helps another person that might want to do this.. Hubby is polishing them now!!! Looking really nice!!!

the wall looks hollow hope it will be held up okay. above photos are the whole marble slab vs marble subway tiles it is differ. make sure to seal your marble and grout it will help you in the long run. it will help with grease.. easy wipe. including for bathroom tiles too after sealing you wont have to use a tooth brush to clean all those grouts.
