A bright new kitchen

We would like to upgrade our 25 year old oak kitchen. I would like to put hand scraped engineered hardwood throughout kitchen and family room and will change our cabinets to white.Question, do we do the floor or the cabinets first?

In my experience, it's your choice. Tile guys will say do the tile first so it's easier for them... Not as many cuts. Cabinet guys will say cabinets first so they don't have to worry about scratching or breaking tiles on the floor. I did not want to pay for all the tile under cabinets so we did cabinets first sitting on top of the backer board. You do have to decide how you will do the floor under the dishwasher. We did not install dishwasher until floor was done (it makes it easier to pull out later.). You don't want to "box in" your dishwasher. I think that is the only concern.

I always like to lay the floor under the cabinets so that if I want to change cabinets in the future I don't have to change the floor.

Floor goes down last because it is engineered hardwood.
