The vase is too big to look good with the lamp. Are those real flowers?

That is a pretty piece. I think you have to play around with the items until the arrangement seems "just right". Ultimately, I think you will need to eliminate something. Try it without the two teacups and the box and see if it looks balanced. Or take out the two cups and the candlesticks and see how you like it. Have you considered a mirror or art behind the credenza and then just the lamp and the box on the surface?

They are fake flowers.Its one long open concept,so this piece is in kitchen against wall.

I've been looking for a mirror to go behind it but I don't know what to get.

I think it is lovely for a kitchen wall. Maybe the vase is too big there but everything else is gorgeous.

I think the Merrill Mirror would look great! I think the vase looks nice there if you can raise your light fixture a little :)

Move chest to right about 6 in. Remove everything except lamp and box. Change to black lamp shade and hang art with black frame low and off center to balance lamp.

I would prefer a lamp with a little texture. Pretty accessories but too many of them lined up in a row. The only other thing that I might suggest is that your floral arrangement is too tall.

I love the credenza. I think all of your surfaces that have accessories would look better with 1/3 to 1/2 removed. The items are interesting and pretty. Perhaps you could seasonally rotate some of them. How would the dining chairs look with one black chair at each end of the table and the two smaller chairs put one on each side?

Yes, too much stuff everywhere. It's pretty, nice stuff but there's that saying--you know the one--less is more. It's a good saying.

First take everything off. The lamp you have is too short and not big enough in scale. Get a mirror to hang over the console. Keep the mother of pearl box.

I think that is much better. I personally would center the mirror though

Could have a little larger mirror. I would "center" mirror, but center it between near edge of lamp shade and left end of credenza. (Move mirror a bit to the right.) I would find a shade that has some of the colors of the mirror and the credenza. The white is a bit stark. One problem is the beautiful and delicate look of the lamp's glass base and the glass if the candleholders are not in keeping with the more rustic and heavier appearing credenza. Even if you left it as is, it looks much nicer now! Good job!

What about using a tray to corral the items on the top of credenza (except lamp). it might give them more weight. Try putting books or other objects under the lamp or candleholders to raise them up a bit, again giving them more weight and some height.

The lamp is still too short for me. I would prefer the mirror to be larger and centered. The candlesticks look odd with no candles in them but if you add candles the scale will be off. This area still looks better though because there are less things on it. Every flat surface except your dining table has a lot of stuff. It looks like nice stuff but to much stuff. On your dining table the vase you moved is too tall. I wonder if it would work on the floor with some sticks in it.

An easy way to add height to a lamp or an accessory is to put a book or 2 under it. Remove the paper cover of a hardcover book . Find a hardcover with a color you like and play with different size books. Definitely need a larger mirror, centered on the piece of furniture.

I like the look of stacked books but the overall scale of the lamp is too small. Notice how flair not only colored the shade but also made the lamp wider.

Different shade. The black is too modern. something a little softer, but not white.

That lamp is a better scale but way too modern. Changing the shade won't help the that aspect.

I think part of the problem is that the chest itself is very different then the rest of your furniture int he room. I agree with the idea of a dark tray to try and ancor it down. I wonder if you put a darker try on it to hold the objects and a lamp with it. Honestly I wonder if you should paint it through to make it fit the rest of your decor more? May not be a popular idea. To me it looks like the furniture piece is fighting your natural draw to a more modern style?

I really love this piece.It was given to me when my grandmother passed away.Ive been adding other wood pieces throughout the space to make it work.For instance my dining chairs are wood at top,I have a big wood tray in living room and a chair that has wood legs.I didn't really want to paint it cause the wood grains and colors are beautiful but if it really still isn't working....

Don't paint it then. Since it's a family piece you should keep it and make it special. I think the fact that it has a story is obviously the best reason. I do see the other wood you are talking about. What if instead of the mirror you did some modern art behind it? I do not have very modern style so I may be way off with these but I think you can mix them nicely as you have done especially with your table and chairs

Next to the refrigerator you have a medium height curio-type cabinet. Scoot it over so that it's centered under the picture.

I think your art needs to be narrower than the chest and much taller than the piece you show. I think it would be a nice place for a colorful abstract.
