Thanks Overland Remodeling! The "dark" tile in the 1st photo is the same as the bottom tile in the second photo, they just look different because of lighting. The reason I would want to do that tile in the tub area is because I love the look/texture of it and would want more of a statement/color on the walls then just white (and yes, I meant rest of the walls in the bathroom). I don't however want to put the "dark" tile on all of the walls in the bathroom, because I think it would feel closed in (it's a small bathroom). :/

i think a white tile against that grey tile you've chosen would be too contrasting / stark. also, not sure about a large tile like that in just the bath area if the rest of the bathroom is tiled white. if you like that tile i say you could go all over the walls with it, choose a lighter floor and light grout to not make it too dark. here's a photo of a very small bathroom i took just before finishing it. i'm sure your tile everywhere on the walls would look fine and not too claustrophobic.

Thanks everyone. I'm not huge on the accent walls, but it's a great way to tie it in altogether. Unfortunately I'm just more confused now! Is there a typical "rule of thumb" that the floors should be one "shade" darker than the walls, etc.?

No rule of thumb - some bathrooms go all over one colour, others vary, some have accent strips, lines, or features. Why not look on Houzz bathrooms carefully at their tiling designs?Sorry to confuse you but it I suggest creating two ideabooks: one I LIKE; two: I DON'T LIKE. It will help narrow your ideas. I am doing the same tile as the floor. I am not big on stripes or accents myself. But I do kind of like the different format of the same tile - as the square mosaic is on the shower floor here in the first one. But I think it looks pretty classy all the same.
