Oil rubbed bronze (lamp) goes with satin stainless (which is also a bit brown) (door handles, cabinet hardware, faucet). You could go all oil rubbed bronze, loads of fixtures avalable, but I think lamps don't need to match other fixtures. It's the whole picture that counts, not the matching factor.

Her basic point is that you can mix it up within reason. So for example, mix it up with a combination of matte, shiny, and oiled finishes but keep it in the same color family.

After reading, I decided to go with a mix of chrome, stainless, and nickel (my color scheme is blue, white, and grey). She suggests a mix of bronze and brass for color schemes more like yours. What I find most helpful about this article is all of the pictures from various rooms that work (and some that don't).

I agree rinqreation it all depends on the end interpretation! You can mix dark oak with stainless steel, black wrought iron, glass white porcelain ( probs not Chrome!) whatever you like. There are no rules as such, although I would advise once you have decided for example brass or the more dulled bronze etc even though you may not want brass in the kitchen and then bathroom upstairs for example , always keep the tones and finishes similar i.e.: brass/chrome bronze/stainless steel or dull nickel.
