Need curb appeal

We bought this house 1 year ago and I just want to make the front of the house more attractive! But we live with very tight budget! Any idea?! THANKS! LUIZA MULLEN

You have a lovely home! Agree with yoboseiyo. Paint the front door red or any happy color and add flowers. If that is a downspout to the left of your front door (the black vertical line), then paint it to blend in with your siding.

You can experiment with colors on your home by going to the Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams paint websites and load up a photo of the front of your home into the visualizers. It's a great way to narrow down the choices

Charming place! Paint your front door the dark color of your shutters. Replace your small light fixture with a much larger one - with black trim. Paint the down spout nearest the front door to match the siding on the house (let it recess). Remove the tall tree/shrubs nearest the front door. Replace the black planters on sides of the breezeway gate to much larger black ones and plant with 1 tallish plant, three shorter plants and a few plants that will drape over the top (like potato vine). Limit to one planter on the front porch with some colorful seasonal plants.

Above is a sample of the planter idea. It appears you have grasses in the flower bed along the house, which should re appear?

Nice layout! If you plan on keeping the house colours as is I would paint the garage door and front door the same colour, maybe both black. Also, add light fixtures on either side of the garage door and matching one at the front door. Painting the fence between the two structures will also add depth and again in black. Trim the tall cedars and tidy up the foliage, that will make a huge difference and use an edger to even out the grass along the driveway. Flowers and shrubs will definitely add life to the front of the house. Have fun!

great ideas, to add on, you could bring out to decking even with the garage, for sure remove the overgrown shrub by the door, line the drive. fun !

First, I would get rid of those trees as they are blocking the view of the house; place a nice small tree farther out front and slightly to the property line side. Second, the landing stoop is too small - enlarge it and add a "rain" cover over it - maybe extend it into a full porch. Third, place planting beds on both sides of the driveway as well as in front of the "new porch" and plant with flowers and small decorative shrubs.

Oh yes, you do need color. Maybe some flowering shrubs in front of the evergreens to the left and trim down what ever it is that is tall and spikey in front. Edge the grass along the drive so it's not so messy. I don't think the dark trim and gutters are helping. If you ever need to replace the roof use shingles that mimic the texture and look of wood shingles, the mix of color in them is attractive. The driveway is so wide, it's like a sea of concrete, anything you can do to soften the edges will help.

I would not paint the garage door the same color as the front door. With the wide driveway, the eye is already drawn to that side of the house. Rather, the front entryway should be the focal point. Flowers and a lively door color should be an easy and fun way to perk up your home. As said before, downspouts should recede and be painted the color of the siding. A lot can be done with a small budget!

Most pop for money...paint front door any color you love ( red tone, aqua, teal, mustard yellow, etc); paint all downspouts to match siding; remove large tree to left of front door; clean up planting beds; add large pot of seasonal color to front porch and breezeway; edge grass along driveway. I don't recommend painting garage doors same color as your trim. That will make it stand out too much.

If money allows, change out light fixture to larger one. Add some compact shrubbery to right side of driveway turnaround...make it curved rather than straight. Include some evergreens and some color like Knockout Roses.

This should really make your house pop. It is a very cute house.

Plant a tall growing plant out from right corner of garage to anchor that side of house. Incorporate it into planting bed I mentioned above. I don't know your location so can't recommend plant.

luiza, don't get discouraged with all of the suggestions! Just pick and choose those you think are helpful and will make you happy. Rome wasn't built in a day! And remember, planters can be made out of anything - doesn't have to be formal or expensive to be attractive and express your sense of fun and charming.
