The three things that stand out to me that scream country are the oval rag rugs on the floor, the collectibles above the cabinet, and the valance on the window. I'd you want a less country feel, remove them. Good luck on your project.

I think your style naturally leans towards a country feel/vibe. Don't fight what comes naturally style wise!! I would paint the cabinets a creamy off white. Get some oil rubbed bronze colored knobs (could always make them a tad more contemporary to modernize it however u don't want it to compete.) I'd finish with a rich butcher block countertop. :)
