We are empty nesters about to start building our retirement home in the country. We would highly value tips and recommendations from fellow Houzz followers regarding a security system and features that are desirable and considered must haves. We are on a budget so resources are limited and we want to spend them wisely. We do plan to have a monitoring company
Here is a little bit about the location. Our lot 5 acres and located in a subdivision made up of approximately the same size lots. The subdivision does it have a gated or secured access. The subdivision is rather new and there are only few homes built thus far, my closest neighbor is about a quarter mile away. Our house will be set back about 500’ from the road and is partially screened from the road by trees. We will have a metal gate at the property entrance once construction is complete. The house is a bungalow with a walkout basement and an attached garage. There will also be a detached shop on the property. The closest town is about 20 miles away (25 min. to drive) and there is a police detachment at the town. We do have a dog that stays inside with us. Also the terrain is heavily treed in boreal forest and the area is spotted with marshy lakes so we anticipate a lot of wildlife traffic consequently motion detectors that are alarmed would get triggered frequently.
