Thanks for the question. This is a light/ white quartz type granite, not marble. Travertine (marble) is typically not recommended for use in kitchens due to its porous and soft nature. It stains and scratches easily, making simple kitchen clean up more complicated then it needs to be. Carerra marble kitchen countertops are often shown in magazines because they are absolutely gorgeous and timeless (think French bistro, etc).

Its just important for a homeowner to know that when using travertine, carerra or any other type of marble in a kitchen, there is a high risk of stains or scratches. However, I've had some clients that don't mind this, and see stains on the marble as a "patina" which tells a story of its life in the home!

If you're going for a light colored look like marble, visit your local granite and stone distributor and ask to see the light stones. There are many different types of granite that have the appearance of marble, so you can achieve the look without the maintenance of marble.
