DIY + Rustoleum and you cannot go wrong

We bought this 20 yr old home and every light fixture was builders grade shiny bright brass. Uggg. The cost of a chandelier that I really like to replace the one at the entry was in excess of $500. I told my husband to get it down and trust me :) - he built a platform to stretch across the entry, disconnected the electrical and got the heavy thing down. I disassembled all of it, removed the glass, and spray painted it with Rustoleum's "Oil Rubbed Bronze". I also removed some of the decorative flairs on the side and the thing turned out amazing. We loved the look so much I made him remove 5 other ceiling fixtures and I refinished all of them.

Thank you! Yes, they had a small area of wood flooring at the entry and scary carpet throughout the upstairs and downstairs. My husband and I ripped out every bit of flooring in the house and put down 2300 sq. ft of 3-1/2" solid, white oak, stained "Metro Brown" and I LOVE IT...it was a beast to do, it was our first time installing wood flooring and it took a total of 3 months because we also installed brand new base & shoe moulding everywhere. All said and done, it was worth every bit of blood sweat & my tears :)

well, it looks great.

did you do anything in the boxed area above the front door? people are always posting photos on houzz of areas like that asking what they should do.

no not yet, still trying to decorate the rest of the house :) - I'm open to suggestions though!

Great job on the light fixture. I painted my ceiling fan. Totally changed the way it looked. Your floors are very pretty, great job.

Beautiful work! I love seeing fellow DIYers fixing things in their home.

I purchased some vintage lamps and metal tissue boxes for my house last year and all of them needed to be cleaned and spray painted. My husband cleaned everything as well as he could, changed the lamp cords, light bulb sockets, harps, and lamp shades plus he spray painted the gold base and some of the other gold components with liquid gold and the lamps look brand new! He also spray painted the 2 gold tissue containers and they also look like new.

You did a great job. I have also taken a fixture apart and spray painted it.

A lot of work - would I do it again? Yet if it was an "expensive to replace" fixture. No if it was easily replaced for around $20.00
