"I enjoy designs that stand out from others. Designs that are experimental but are still somehow functional. That may be the reason why I am drawn to modern and contemporary architecture. Before I became a design student, I was also captivated by how aesthetically pleasing modern architecture buildings usually look to me. From my point of view, I started to see architectural aesthetics as a status. One that lives in a
nice-looking house, or one with a well-designed interior speaks of sophistication and taste. Thus, everything became purely about aesthetics. But after becoming a design student, I realised the importance of ‘form following function’ (Although I’m still having a hard time adhering to this “rule”). But that’s design, there are no rules, the sky is the limit to your creativity. Nothing really persuaded me to become a design student, I just so happened to become one. I guess architecture is quite appealing as not only can you see your works materialised and used by others, but the process getting there is one of meaning. Recently, I have gained a liking for the works of Yabu Pushelberg. I like the approaches they do to reinvent concepts and then translating it into their designs."
