While I can truly appreciate the sunbrella rigged awning insets they require a measure of maintenance to keep the aluminum tracking well oiled so the rigging works effectively all the time every time, the other issue is they collect both the carbon soot of the air and any and all detritus from surround higher trees that if not removed cause odd shadows on the awning and that ultimately gets stuck in the fabric when folded back.
Just to note because I see something here I don’t like and that is the downward slowing of the awnings. I prefer square to ground and actually prefer in many cases a upward sloping awning element so you don’t feel cramped below. I raise the pergola as it goes outward to provide a greater feeling of being out of doors
This would be and is one of my favorite type pergolas heavy corner posts with the fairly closely placed Louvers as they do provide a better measure of shading and depending on orientation with Louvers set into the main frame on a slight angle they offer wonderful measure of shade and you are not looking back up at the side of the guest house wall
Should we do something like this to repurpose the water wall / fire pit. I tried reply to this, houzz on my iPad is acting up. But for me this is too focal a look and not supportive of an entire environment and for the cost for something yo may tire of in a few years.
