Shelving on either side ? Built in ? Floating. Or do bench on right and shelves left ? Think space needed.at entrance. Still thinking about horizontally huge doors at step down or French doors with stationary panels of glass on either side. Coordinate wall space floor space built in stuff eg bench / seating in front of fireplace. Knock out chimney and move wall back. Sacrifice area in laundry room. Need shelves to coordinate with fireplace finish and don’t forget tongue and groove ceiling.!!! Coordinate with French doors trim. Wood color and hardware color ? Fireplace and ceiling should be goals for coordinating.. Cypress down before drywall ? Paint it ?

This very cool fireplace with recessed tv above. No wasted space with mantel. Replace funky with tile ? More space without need for floor protection in front of fireplace. A stationary bench in tile or low wooden bench ?
