Van Soest - Existing Kitchen (Murrysville)

Shows my dining room, adjacent to my kitchen. I want to take the wall down between the rooms and add a bar that can be used for seating (looking into the kitchen) or as a buffet line for serving.

View from my front door. Stairs to second floor are to the left, kitchen straight ahead, dining room is through the den to the right, den/parlor is to the right.

Existing kitchen. Shows connection to sun room, which is our family room and the room we spend the most time in. The sun room is too big and the kitchen too small. I want to integrate the two spaces by extending a new island from the kitchen into the sun room.

The existing countertops are black and show every little spot. Not good for a busy house full of children, family, friends, and mealtime gatherings.

The patio is directly outside of the right-most sliding door and the pool is beyond that. The dining room also connects to the patio via a sliding door.

Note that tiles are cracked. The sub floor needs reinforcement in this area so the new floor doesn't crack.

Existing transition from kitchen into sun room. I hate this shitty transition strip and the mis-matched flooring.

The glass sliders at the back of the dining room open to the patio and pool area.

Probably a problem to solve with the next project, but that's a huge pile of laundry on the dining room table, and it's always there. We have 6 kids.

This is a view from the kitchen sink. The door to the right leads into the garage and the door to the left is the powder room.

The hutch in this view is right where I want to create a new door, which would lead into what is currently garage space, but would be pantry space in the future.

Notice the dog bowls and trash cans. Can we find a better and less visible place for these?!

This counter is useless. It usually serves as a dead-end buffet line and collection space for misc. junk. Our toaster and microwave are here, which doesn't work with it being in a corner.

The middle of our kitchen is useless space. Other than that it is occasionally used as a dancefloor, I wish it had an island in the middle.

The section of caninets and wall ovens is what I want taken down to open this to the dining room. There would still be a range, base cabinets, and counters, but no wall or wall cabinets above.

The Christmas garland is obviously not usually there, but notice the recessed puck lights, which I like and wish to keep. I can't stand being in the dark. I like bright and well lit spaces, preferably with natural light.

This is from the sun room looking into the kitchen. Note the table we eat casual meals at, which seats 8 (our nuclear family size), is in the way of the path to the patio and the clearances around the table are too narrow when people are seated. The section of wall left of the opening into the kitchen should go, if possible, to create functional space (for a walkway in my concept).

This shows a very common path of travel from our front door and upstairs through the kitchen to reach the sun room.
