Design History

Victorian - The Victorian era is when the Industrial Revolution takes place so everyone is able to buy furniture. Pictured here is a tete-a-tete inspired sofa. The sofa was meant to separate single men and woman from conversing/siting next to each other. This couch has been modernized by being white, and by making the structure of the couch more squared and rounded.

Art Deco - During this period Indoor spaces have curves, straight, and geometric patterns. Here we have a dinning space that has an art deco inspired style. The walls have geometric patterns, and the chairs have rounded corners, in a lighter tone. many of the elements used in this space are inspired by art deco.

Rococo - A roll top desk in a green color. During the rococo movement the roll top desk was meant to hide all the clutter on top of the desk. Purpose was to make the space look more organized than it actually was. Here we have it more modernized by being in a green shade and built smaller.

Art Nouveau - This movement is inspired by nature. The use of stain glass is introduced, and interior spaces mostly depict nature scenes. This image shows exactly that. Stain glass in the interior has images of nature, and flowers. We see the use of plants all over the bedroom, and the color green wish refers to nature.

English Renaissance - Tudor monarchy happens during this time period. The living room has some characteristics of the English renaissance. Firstly, the ceiling has strap work, although here we don't see it with leaves but other shapes. Also, the walls are made of wood that have leaf carvings.

Louis XIV (Baroque) - These chairs have floral patterns that are very reminiscent of the baroque style. The chair pictured here is a more modernized style of the wing back chair that is reclined a bit which was meant for the sick.

Modernism - This space is influenced by the Bauhaus movement. The fundamental aspects of this design in particular the contrasting properties of various forms, color, and materials. The walls also have geometric design with bright colors which is the same feature we see throughout Charles and Rays house. Minimalist idea is brought in.

Gothic - The interior space is Gothic inspired because the building is tall, and has glass widows that have trefoils. Trefoils were a very common motif during the Gothic period. There is also pointed arch construction throughout the building. Here everything is seen more simple and in lighter colors.

Rome - Pictured is a Rome inspired house. There are leaves and rosettes that are carved on the building. Also we see various Ionics- shaped like a scroll in the architecture.

Greece - In Greece their were furniture that were mostly stools and kismos chairs that were uniquely styled. Here we have a kismos in the dinning area that is made of wood and a more comfortable material. The interior space also has various aspects of nature.
