My builder uses Houzz Pro to plan the timeline and give detailed estimates and daily updates with photos of progress, and provide invoices at pre-agreed key points in the build. This made the whole experience much more efficient and stress-free.

I have 6 beautiful plants of Annie Laurie McDowell along my garden wall that get better every year. I feel an obligation to pass along this lovely rose so that others can enjoy it, too. I tried several times to root it and was unsuccessful. I’m not ready to accept defeat at this point, but I’m thinking I’d be better off learning the art of budding and trying to graft it on Pink Cloud or Fortuniana rootstock. I’m presently completely inexperienced with grafting, but definitely open to the challenge. Kim, what’s your advice to me on this? (I’m fairly confident that I can learn and only wish I was closer to Burling as she offered to teach me.) Which rootstock would you recommend for Annie Laurie McDowell and which method of grafting?

I bet The Prince wouldn’t mind a hard prune, it seems to regenerate easily. It’s not one of those Charlotte Armstrong descendants that keeps building on itself, getting the thicker canes up higher and higher.

They definitely seed around in VA -- I pull numerous seedlings each year. Nearly every yard on my street has a butterfly bush and evidently none of my neighbors deadhead them. I allowed two seedlings to grow but I don't allow seed to form. It's ironic that folks are planting butterfly bushes to help butterflies when the bush is invasive.
