ID Lighting

Natural Lighting- Natural light from the sun shining through windows and doors to create a lighting that fills the room.

Task Lighting- Lighting specifically for a task.

Accent lighting- Light to accentuate certain items, most often used to accentuate and make art pop out.

Ambient lighting- A type of general lighting where lights are not in the open and avoid casting shadows.

(Wall) Grazing - Light close to wall, used to show contrast and emphasize texture through light and shadows.

Perimiter Lighting- Used to set off or create a perimeter using lighting.

Up lighting- Instead of light shining from ceiling to ground, light is shone from ground up. Can be used to cast unique shadows and can also be used to create lighted pathways.

Cove lighting- Lighting placed between a lower ceiling and higher ceiling. Giving a concealed halo effect.

Recessed lighting- Lighting placed on the other side of the ceiling. In this case the style used is open lighting.

Drop lighting- Lighting dropped from fixtures, usually lighting resemble chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. However in this one its a wire of lights.

Wall Washing- Light used to make patterns on walls using light.

Sconce- Wall-attached fixtures resembling somewhat torches.

2 x 2 or 2 x 4 lighting- In this case it is 2 x 2 lighting using the u-shaped light fixture often seen in 2 x 4 lighting. This style of lighting is usually used to ensure light in the room.

Incandescent bulb- Bulb which generates heat by transfering electricity from a outlet and moving it to wires that transfer to the filament which heats up to produce light.

Fluorescent bulb- Consists of a glass tube in which gas like argon is kept, coated along the inside of the glass is phosphor powder. When electricity comes into contact with the electrode (input point) it excites the electrons which go to the other side of the tube and changes the mercury from liquid to gas. The electrons and charged atoms collide and eventually form UV light which is transformed into visible light via the phosphor coating.
