Adding a skylight or light tube can help cut down on the energy you use. The solar light tubes seen here are Sky Tunnels from Velux. Because they have an integrated solar-powered night light inside, the product and installation qualify for a 30 percent federal tax credit on purchase and installation of solar electric equipment through Dec. 31, 2019. (The tax credit value drops to 26 percent starting Jan. 1, 2020.)
For this home, Blakely chose bold accent hues inspired by coral. She loosely based the color palette on the 60-30-10 rule: 60 percent of the primary color, 30 percent of a secondary color and 10 percent of an accent color with punch. “We didn’t stick to this exactly, but for the 10 percent, we used the orange and pink coral-inspired tones that give the house that vibrant energy that makes it a fun family home,” she says. The artwork enlivens the room and has coastal appeal without being too theme-y.
Nightstands can be substantial. Larger ones measure about 20 inches deep and 40 inches wide. Carefully consider height as well. Some mattresses on the market are stacked relatively high, and it is convenient to have the top of your nightstand about the same height as the top of the mattress. Most common nightstand heights are 26 to 28 inches. Smaller nightstands should be used in smaller spaces and with smaller beds.
Rounded backrest and nightstands. This curved headboard with storage seems to be part of the bed, which adds to its ergonomic feel. It’s packed with useful shelving, with two-tier bedside tables that wrap around the sides of the bed and a couple of handy compartments at the back. The curved top is also home to a pair of practical reading lamps. Clever!
Work in storage. A wooden panel behind the bed has the addition of a box shelf in this clever design. With space on top for a nighttime glass of water and a recess for books, this neat solution eschews the need for a separate bedside table — a useful consideration in a small space. The paneling detail and gray paint finish give the headboard a smart look. Maybe Em & Ben
Put Parallel Lines to Work Linear perspective is the idea that objects of the same size will appear smaller when they are farther from the viewer. Using parallel lines, whether in a painting, garden design or room, is a tried-and-true way to create a sense of distance as the eye is drawn toward a vanishing point. Put linear perspective to work in your small space by hanging curtains just below the ceiling, putting up a symmetrical grid of artwork or rolling out a rug with vertical stripes.
This timeless combination gives a room an instant sense of maturity and sophistication, but it can also be warm and welcoming if you make sure to include strong doses of texture and pattern. Use patterned pillows and wallpapers, art, textural fabrics and hints of wood and plant life to make sure the space feels complex and inviting to the touch.
I would like the side rails of the bed frame to cover the space between the mattress and the box spring.
hide the big black screen when not in use and that the TV doesn’t dominate the room,” she says. The way this artwork conceals the TV is just right. Interesting that it’s a pair of paintings that separate when the TV is on but come together when it’s off. I’m sure there’s a feng shui lesson in there somewhere.

The bed and the textiles are the only contemporary items in the bedroom. The oldest piece is a mid-19th-century armoire. “It’s made very cleverly,” Zhdanova says. “The doors can be removed from their hinges, and the top is easily separated from the bottom.” A horizontal divide allows the armoire to split in half; the join is concealed with decorative molding. “Such a simple but effective design made it easy to bring it through small doorways.”
Love those ginger jars on the far left
I like the minimalism of this room.

Your plumber may love or loathe the challenge of turning a piece of furniture into a vanity. Here is what’s involved: Make sure the height is right to comfortably wash your hands and brush your teeth (most people prefer between 32 and 36 inches). You can gain inches by using a vessel sink and by adding or extending the feet. Learn more about bathroom height measurements. Treat the original wooden top with a sealant such as polyurethane or marine varnish to prevent it from rotting. Or replace it with something more durable like natural stone or engineered quartz. Have a carpenter shorten the length of any drawers to accommodate the sink’s P-trap so that you can still use them for storage.
LIKE THE BLUE WALL COLOR - Nautical. Blues, tans and a range of textures all mix in this coastal-inspired East Coast bedroom. The white sheets give the eye a break from color and texture, with the navy blue piping along the edge of the duvet and pillowcases subtly tying in with the rest of the color palette and room style.
The bed skirt would work in my master. Simple, box pleat at the corners. that way I don't have to pay for a bed frame, I just need to raise the bed.
