I would love to have most color contrast from foliage since flowers don't last very long, and flowering plants require more maintenance as opposed to shrubs and trees. We had two gorgeous plums in the back before, and when trimmed properly worked well except for THE FRUIT!! If there was any way to guarantee a nonfruiting variety i'd be up for that.
